We announce the release of sPlot 2.0 - the global vegetation-plot database. sPlot currently contains >1.1 million plots from 110 source databases originating from all seven continents and a total of 130 countries. The plot data are linked to the most recent version of the global plant trait database TRY via a unified taxonomic backbone standardizing > 100,000 species names. This unique data collection will open new avenues for analyses of functional composition of plant communities across the world’s biomes, but also for macroecolgical studies in general.sPlot is hosted by iDiv, the German Centre of Integrative Biodiversity Research, and is a collaborative project of hundreds of contributors around the world.
