Research Interests

 

I am an interdisciplinary researcher working at the interface of geography, ecology, and informatics to study global human-environment dynamics. My main focus is on global land-use changes, their environmental consequences, and their socioeconomic drivers. I embrace modern digital technology as a way of addressing theoretical, data, and modelling challenges in interdisciplinary science. My work typically uses statistical and computational approaches to analyze large datasets (incl. qualitative data) and often transcends multiple spatial scales or levels of organization (e.g., spatial, temporal, political). As of November 2016, I am leading the Macroecology & Society lab at (iDiv), funded by the Volkswagen Foundation as a Freigeist-Fellow.
