Connecting iCyt and other (iDiv) platforms

Abstract

The combination of the iDiv support platform iCyt and other experimental platforms like the Canopy Crane or TrophinOak offer unique methodological approaches to quantify pollen production as part of primary production and aquatic-terrestrial coupling, assess crucial parameters for health-related pollen forecasts (e.g. source strength, i.e. the amount of pollen per time released by a single tree) as well as allows to assess intraspecific pollen trait variability. All these aspects cannot be sufficiently addressed so far due to methodological restriction either based on limited access to the tree canopy. limited genetic comparability or by time-consuming microscopic investigations of pollen. The iCyt platform in combination with other partners can overcome these limitations from different research fields and create completely new opportunities for research, which could be also successfully demonstrated in joint with SIE and the working group Wirth.

In the workshop, a detailed concept for future work should be established.
