sANDES – Tree Diversity, Composition and Carbon Storage in Andean Tropical Montane Forests

First meeting: 22.-25.01.2019

PIs:
Luis Cayuela
Manuel J. Macía

iDiv member:
Nadja Rüger

Project summary:
Andean tropical montane forests (TMFs) are one of the world's most threatened terrestrial ecosystems. Furthermore, little is known about the factors that control their species composition, diversity and carbon storage at the continental scale. This working group aims to: i) identify unique floristic regions of Andean TMFs containing the highest diversity of woody species, ii) disentangle the relative contribution of latitudinal and elevational gradients to plant species diversity and composition, and iii) assess the potential of TMFs for carbon storage.
