How do I become a better supervisor for PhDs? A subject Dr. Katharina Grosser is aware of during her daily work as a Co-supervisor for our PhD students. In various courses on this subject, she noted that many postdocs had the same question. Together with fellow postdocs of various disciplines from the University of Jena, she started the interdisciplinary working group "Professionelle Betreuung von Promovierenden". The aim of the group is to enhance the supervision of PhD candidates by sharing problems and solutions the individual group members encountered. The Graduate Academy of Jena supports the project financially and provides rooms for meetings. With the help of a coach, the postdocs trained collegiate counseling and developed a procedure to select suitable doctoral candidates. Further meetings on the topics "Limitations of Supervision" and "Constructive Criticism" will follow in the coming weeks. Information on the interdisciplinary working group can be found on the page of the Graduate Academy [click here].
