iDiv as a Host Institution
iDiv is looking for early-career scientists (f/m/d) to establish their own externally-funded, biodiversity-focused research groups and join a vibrant community of scholars tackling biodiversity issues. You should have already secured funding or planning to do so.
With iDiv as your host institution, you will receive financial support to set up a lab, including facilities, personnel, and a running budget. As a diverse and inclusive workplace, we are committed to supporting you in conducting excellent science.
Benefits include our welcome center for internationals, flexible childcare, and career development opportunities. We especially encourage proposals from female researchers.
Guidelines
These guidelines will help you understand the application process and what requirements must be met before joining us.
Requirements
- Conduct innovative biodiversity research that aligns with iDiv’s research program and mission, and introduce novel interdisciplinary ideas that complement existing research.
- Have secured independent funding for your position or research group, or be in the process of doing so (for example, from the Emmy Noether Programme (DFG), ERC Grant, BMBF Junior Research Groups, Heisenberg-Programme, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Sofja Kovalevskaja Award).
- Hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a related field, preferably with experience as an independent postdoctoral researcher.
- Demonstrate an excellent scientific track record with several publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
Benefits
- Collaboration with an iDiv member to develop a high-quality grant application before submission.
- Receive financial and administrative support, including a JRG start-up package.
- Access to an excellent research infrastructure, including lab and office space.
- Build your professional network within our consortium.
- Engage in teaching and student supervision opportunities at yDiv and participating universities.
- Access competitive internal research funding.
- Take advantage of career development support, such as supervision training and individual coaching.
Process
If you are considering iDiv as your host institution, please initiate the process as early as possible, ideally at least six months before submitting a proposal. This allows us to provide the necessary support, to ensure that the proposed project is well aligned with iDiv’s research program, and that there is plenty of time for the necessary administrative processes.
> 6 months before submission
Reach out to the Chair of iDiv’s Speaker Board to declare your interest and initiate the process.
The Chair will then provide you with further information and identify a suitable mentor from the Speaker Board.
4 months before submission
Present your research at the iDiv Seminar Series.
3 months before submission
Present and discuss your project ideas at a Speaker Board meeting.
If approved by the Speaker Board, continue working on your proposal together with a designated mentor.
