Dr Mick Hanley (Plymouth University, UK) and Dr Nicole M. van Dam (iDiv, Leipzig, Germany) are looking for an enthusiastic candidate for a postdoctoral position shared between their labs. The objectives are to determine whether patterns of variation in seedling resistance to herbivory corroborate established biogeographic theories about latitudinal variation in plant defence. The project is funded for 3 years by the Leverhulme Trust. It involves studies of snail behaviour in Plymouth (first 18 months) and  analysis of plant defence metabolites in Leipzig thereafter. Requirements: PhD in chemical ecology, plant sciences or similar. Ideally you have research experience in plant-animal interactions, analyses of plant volatiles and/or metabolomes, and multi-variate data analysis. A full UK driving licence (or international equivalent), the ability to work independently, plan, design and manage experiments, and convert research data into high quality publications are essential. More information can be found here. Application deadline: 30 October 2018.
