For the ranking, more than 3,400 researchers from 21 natural sciences and social sciences have been selected by Clarivate Analytics (formerly part of Thomson Reuters) based on the number of the most frequently cited publications published between January 2005 and December 2015 over a period of 11 years. Only the top 1 percent of the most cited publications per year and subject area of the Web of Science were considered.
