Gauging the Elusive

Scientists at the Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry in collaboration with their peers from the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and iDiv developed a program for gauging the sizes and shapes of plant cells. They named their program PaCeQuant (from Pavement Cell Quantification). In a single pass, the program automatically measures and records specific shape features for several hundred epidermal leaf cells. The scientists provide this program as plugin for the image analysis platform ImageJ, which widely used. As open source software, the PaCeQuant program is freely available for all. Recently, the science journal Plant Physiology published the results of this research.
