Special issue: Plant physiology meets biodiversity

About one year ago, Christian Wilhelm and the iDiv synthesis centre sDiv organized a two-day workshop to bring molecular physiologists and functional ecologists together. The aim of the workshop was to bridge the gap between organismic and molecular sciences to create a deeper understanding of functional biodiversity. The idea is to show that modern techniques developed for the analysis of individual plants can also be applied on the level of communities or large populations. The collected articles in the publication present the state-of-the-art of knowledge on important processes for plant life such as photosynthesis, carbon uptake, nitrogen use or biotic interaction. The publication contains 14 papers, including the article “Implication of evolution and diversity in arbuscular and ectomycorrhizal symbioses” of iDiv co-director Prof. François Buscot and the introduction "Physiodiversity – new tools allow physiologist to embrace biodiversity and reconstruct the evolution of ‘physiologies’?" of Christian Wirth and Christian Wilhelm.
