Flexible Childcare at iDiv

iDiv offers a flexible childcare programme to support work-life balance and assist with (un-)planned childcare needs. Flexible childcare is available for kids of iDiv staff and short-term visitors, such as workshop participants.

iDiv’s nursery room is equipped with toys, books, craft materials, and much more that cater to the needs of children of different ages. The room has a small kitchen where lunch/snacks can be prepared, and it can also facilitate rest/nap time.

Please note, that iDiv’s flexible childcare programme does not substitute generally available childcare services by Kindergarten, Hort or other public childcare providers (e.g. Tagesmama). Childcare must be arranged and financed privately in events that are not directly related to an iDiv engagement, e.g. child pickup to/from school/Hort, evening babysitting, etc. If unsure, contact us prior to requesting flexible childcare.

Childcare Offers during School Holidays

Criteria for the Childcare Organisation and Funding

The Equal Opportunities Committee (EOC) is dedicated to providing equal opportunities for everyone at iDiv. This includes making the workplace “science” more family-friendly. Within the framework of the “iDiv Childcare Programme”, funds are allocated for child care. Childcare can be organised and funded if the following criteria are met.

Eligible are iDiv members, iDiv-funded employees from a working group of an iDiv member, or yDiv post-/doctoral researchers,
if childcare cannot be provided by regular means (e.g., nursery, preschool, kindergarten, after-school care), and
if other legal guardians cannot provide the childcare and
if the childcare hours are necessary to maintain work on iDiv projects, to take part in outreach activities related to iDiv, or to participate in iDiv events or iDiv committee meetings.

Examples of possible allocation of iDiv Childcare funds include:

Childcare outside of normal child care hours during special events (e.g., iDiv events on weekends or evenings);
Childcare during essential events that are not held at the residence (e.g., conferences, workshops);

To apply for iDiv Childcare, please email the following information to childcare@idiv.de:

justification why child care is not available through regular means;
justification of why other legal guardians cannot provide child care; and
a description of the event with an explanation of how this event is related to iDiv;
a brief summary of the budget required for child care.

In principle, there is no entitlement to childcare, but the EOC is committed to the idea of making child care possible in order to create a family-friendly workplace. The EOC decides after an assessment of the individual case, also considering the budget and criteria of comparability with other situations.
