A Citizen Science School Project for Exploring Soil Health
Bodenlos is a citizen science project that offers high school students hands-on access to studying soil health. The project aims to raise awareness among young learners about the importance of soils as ecosystems and to introduce them to scientific methods for studying soils. It focuses on the ecological functions of soil and how human activities impact soil quality.
More than 50% of all living organisms on Earth inhabit the soil, which serves as the foundation for plant growth, water regulation, and nutrient supply. Despite its enormous significance, soils are often inadequately covered in school curricula. The project addresses this gap by enabling students to explore soils as habitats and understand the health aspects of soils.
