The workshop aims at providing an introduction to teaching and learning at higher education institutions. Especially researchers and other academic colleagues, who are beginning to teach but have no prior experience will find first orientation and support. More experienced instructors who want to refresh their knowledge and engage in exchange with colleagues may also participate. The topics will include:
- Overview of basics of higher education pedagogy (learning theories, student-centred teaching, constructive alignment/backward design, active learning)
- Course and session design
- Teaching philosophy: your role as teacher in higher education
- Participants’ challenges: focus on participants’ specific questions
- First transfer to own teaching, including presentation of own course design with peer feedback
This workshop will be very interactive and places importance on collaborative learning. Therefore, an active participation during the whole time is essential.
