With the revision of German immigration law of November 2023 a lot of positive changes have been passed, also applying to PhD candidates and PostDocs from non-EU countries. This does also concern the situation of scholarship holders and brings a faster access for academics and skilled workers to a permanent residence permit.

This transition is still ongoing, but all changes should be implemented by 1 June 2024 latest, which is why we would like to offer an overview of the situation, conditions and procedures to change to a more favorable residence permit and then go over individual questions of the participants.
