Research Interest

 

I am a postdoctoral researcher with a background in applied mathematics who turned to theoretical and quantitative ecology. I am fascinated by the feedback loop between ecological theory and empirical research, the ability to describe ecological systems through mathematical abstractions from reality, and the impact such models have for understanding the complexity and stability found in natural systems.

I am enthusiastic about knowledge transfer (math, stats, computation) and making methods available for non-specialists. I want to reach out through teaching, consulting, collaborations and writing method papers.

My scientific focus lies at the interface of modeling and statistics, including topics like population dynamics, time series, species interactions, functional responses and food webs. Specifically, I use Bayesian inference for estimating critical system parameters like growth or feeding rates from, e.g. experimental time-series data or feeding experiments. This allows modeling population dynamics by differential equations with meaningful parametrizations.
