Dear iDiv scientists,

We are pleased to invite you to the 4th iDiv Annual Conference, which will be held on the 11 and 12 December 2018 in Leipzig. This year’s conference will be combined with the iDiv Christmas Party.

The iDiv Annual Conference is the most important iDiv event that brings experienced and aspiring iDiv scientists together. The aim is to provide an interactive forum for scientific exchange and an attractive platform for establishing new contacts and collaborations within the iDiv consortium.

Hélène Morlon, CNRS Research Director (France), TED fellow and macro evolutionist, will give the keynote speech. This year, contributions to present and discuss the human and societal dimension of biodiversity research and management are especially welcome. Martin Quaas, who holds iDiv’s new professorship Biodiversity Economics, will talk about his research. At the ‘Into the Future’ session, four renowned scientists from natural and social sciences will discuss ‘risks to ecosystems’ from different perspectives. The talks will touch the assessment, evaluation, societal perception and modelling of these risks. A marketplace session and open space for taproot research will give the possibility to present, get to know and discuss taproot research.

Early-career scientists are invited to design ignite sessions (‘speed-talks’) that create entertaining and interactive platforms for knowledge exchange. We are happy to offer professional training (› see here) for this challenging but fun talk format, and maybe you will even win the talk award! Besides the best talk, we will reward the best poster and, for the first time, acknowledge an outstanding outreach effort with the iDiv Science Communication Award (see here:

See you at the conference in December!

Yours, the iDiv organising committee

Nicole van Dam (chair), Uli Brose, Anna Burnett, Adam Clark, Thore Engel, Olga Ferlian, Christian Kuhlicke, Blanca Rojas-Andrés, Nicole Sachmerda-Schulz, Rebecca Thier-Lange, Hanna Weise and Judith Wiegelmann
