Research Interests

My research interests are in the field of ecology and biodiversity change. I have focused my PhD on gaining a better understanding of the impact and influence that certain habitat categories, and their area, have in the distribution and richness of species across the landscape, and how land use change influences the predictions of extinction rates based on Species-area relationship (SAR) models. In particular my research has focused on three main components: (i) understanding the theoretical and empirical relationships between drivers of environmental change and the diversity and composition of terrestrial assemblages at multiple spatio-temporal scales, with a special focus on land use change as a driver of biodiversity change; (ii) quantifying the magnitude and spatial extent of the effects of different anthropogenic activities (e.g., agricultural and forestry activities) on birds as an indicator taxa, covering a variety of spatial scales, from local to global analysis; (iii) investigating the relative contributions of different bird species (e.g., specialists vs generalists) to observed biodiversity trends, and how such contributions covary with future anthropogenic changes.
