Dr Van Cong Doan
Since my early research, I am interested in the impact of global climate change on plant-insect-natural enemy interactions. I use plant chemical, plant traits, ecological phenomenon, biological response of the plant, insect, natural enemies to unravel the mechanisms of climate change on the tri-trophic interactions. I also learn to master several techniques, including plant and insect behavioral and performance experiments, sugar and starch analyses, protein analyses, amino acid measurements, targeted and untargeted metabolomics (HPLC-qDA-MS and qTOF-MS), volatile analyses (GC-MS) and q-RT-PCRs.
Currently, I am working as the technical assistance in the project “Chemical and morphological traits as mediators of biotic interactions along plant diversity gradients” in the “Jena Experiment”. The project is collaborated by Professor Alexandra Weigelt, Leonardo Bassi (University of Leipzig), and Professor Nicole van Dam (MIE). I support with the experiments, sampling in the Jena experiment, using the analytical platforms at the iDiv and the University of Leipzig to analyze plant primary and secondary metabolite in grass plant species.
