AIM – To provide doctoral researchers with an opportunity to build your understanding, skills and confidence in communication with your supervisor, colleagues and peers. This will enhance your overall effectiveness as you pursue your research studies and future careers.

METHODS – Participants will experience interactive lectures, moderated group discussions and perform activities in order to learn from first-hand experience. We will safely move you outside of their “comfort zone” to the “learning zone” to enhance acquisition of novel skills. In addition, we will apply the “invoked insufficiency” to enhance learning. The shortcoming experienced by participants will be resolved in carefully moderated and focused review sessions, using peer-to-peer feedback as powerful tool.

MODULES - project and time management, roles of supervisor and doctoral researcher, group dynamics, social awareness, feedback, active listening, conflicts & collaborations

At the end of the course, the participants will dispose of a personal toolbox that will allow you to plan your Ph.D. project, communicate efficiently with the supervisor, other members in the team and collaborators, a skill that is key to success!
