This course provides a practical introduction to writing scientific publications. The aim is to give you a clear understanding of how to write papers, and come up with the most important elements of a first draft of your scientific paper. Recommendations of useful literature on scientific writing will be given, as well as practical advice on how to organise and improve your writing.

To participate in this course, you should have started planning the writing of a scientific paper. You will be asked to bring with you 1-3 publications which are similar to your own planned publication. These “model papers” will be scanned for key phrases and elements, which can be used as the starting point for writing new text.

Prior to the course, you will also be asked to think about possible “take home messages” of your planned articles, and to compile figures and tables summarising your current results (or outlining how these results should look like). Then, from organising the results and formulating the key message and first, tentative title and abstract, main parts of all elements of the manuscript will be written.

The course consist of two intensive course days of lectures, exercises and discussion. In addition, two hours of self-study are required.
