Contents

This course is relevant to doctoral researchers working in the fields of biodiversity, environmental science and socio-political studies. The main aim of the course is to identify the relevance of (own) current research and pathways to increase impact, learn knowledge exchange facilitation techniques and interdisciplinary teamwork.

The course consists of lecture elements, interactive discussions with science-policy experts and practitioners, participant presentations and the practicing of facilitation techniques such as role play and world cafe. A two-day trip to Berlin to meet policy advisors and conservation professionals is organised as part of the course (accomodation in shared rooms and public transport will be funded by yDiv).

Topics covered include:

  • Overview of the main current biodiversity policy issues
  • Opportunities and challenges in working at the science-policy interface, including discussion about the job market and relevant institutions/organisations
  • Interactive discussions with science-policy experts and policy advisors
  • Exploring citizen science as tool for innovation
  • Basic training in participatory knowledge exchange and science communication
