Contents

Objectives: Participants get more in depth knowledge of different teaching methods and types of courses in higher education. Special attention will be given to modern methods of teaching, the supervision of BA- and MA-students and to lectures. Participants learn to know and exercise the method of peer coaching.

Content:

  • Teaching in universities in Germany means: to educate researchers. What does that mean for your preparation and conduction of courses?
  • To combine research and teaching: methods to use: case studies; excursions; problem based learning; simulation of typical scientific situations like discussions, poster presentations; collaborative work; portfolio etc.
  • How to invent your own methods?
  • How to prepare and give inspiring lectures?
  • Teaching in intercultural and interdisciplinary environments: How to deal with different students with different backgrounds?
  • Supervision of BA- and MA-students.
  • Difficult situations in teaching.
  • How to develop new ideas and solutions: Peer coaching as method to solve problems in teaching.

Target Group: Researchers with more than two years of teaching experience; if possible with some knowledge of didactics and teaching methods in higher education.

Dr. Matthias Schwarzkopf

has been head of LehreLernen – the training centre for university teachers – at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He has founded www.karrierberatung-akademiker.de together with colleagues.
