Gatersleben: Großer Erfolg für den iDiv-Juniorforschungsgruppenleiter Dr. Martin Mascher. Der 34-jährige Wissenschaftler, der am Leibniz-Institut für Pflanzengenetik und Kulturpflanzenforschung (IPK) arbeitet, erhält einen Starting Grant vom European Research Council (ERC). Damit wird sein aktuelles Forschungsprojekt TRANSFER in den kommenden fünf Jahren mit 1,5 Millionen Euro gefördert.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Der European Research Council, der 2007 von der Europ\u00e4ischen Union eingerichtet wurde, ist die europ\u00e4ische F\u00f6rderorganisation f\u00fcr exzellente Pionierforschung schlechthin. Jedes Jahr (2020: 436) w\u00e4hlt und finanziert sie die besten und kreativsten Forscherinnen und Forscher jeder Nationalit\u00e4t und jeden Alters aus, um Projekte in Europa durchzuf\u00fchren. Die Mittel in H\u00f6he von insgesamt 677 Millionen Euro sollen den Nachwuchswissenschaftlern und -wissenschaftlerinnen helfen, ihre eigenen Teams aufzubauen und in allen Disziplinen exzellente Grundlagenforschung zu betreiben. Die Zusch\u00fcsse sind Teil des EU-Programms f\u00fcr Forschung und Innovation \u201eHorizont 2020.<\/p>\n

Dr. Martin Mascher ist seit 2015 Leiter der iDiv-Juniorforschungsgruppe \u201eDomestikationsgenomik\u201c am iDiv und IPK in Gatersleben. In seinem ERC-Projekt TRANSFER soll die Nutzbarmachung von wilden Verwandten der Gerste erforscht werden. Verwandte Wildarten von Kulturpflanzen k\u00f6nnen eine wichtige Quelle n\u00fctzlicher Diversit\u00e4t bei agronomischen Merkmalen sein. Da die Kreuzung von Pflanzen \u00fcber Artgrenzen hinweg sehr schwierig ist, werden Wildpflanzen in der Z\u00fcchtung kaum genutzt. Im TRANSFER-Projekt werden Mascher und sein\u00a0 Team mit wilden Gerstenarten aus Patagonien (S\u00fcdamerika) arbeiten. Genomische und genetische Arbeiten sollen die molekulare Grundlage von au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlich gro\u00dfer Salztoleranz in diesen Arten entschl\u00fcsseln und deren \u00dcbertragbarkeit in die Kulturgerste m\u00f6glich machen.<\/p>\n
