Clear writing is not a luxury \u2014 it is a professional skill that shapes how a researcher\u2019s work is understood, evaluated, and remembered.<\/p>\n

This hands\u2011on workshop helps master\u2019s students and postdocs move beyond jargon and dense sentences toward writing that is clear, compelling, and effective.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, participants will explore the foundations of plain writing, learn how to strip away unnecessary complexity, and practice techniques for making their ideas easy to follow.<\/p>\n

The workshop also introduces storytelling as a tool for researchers: how to frame a project as a narrative, create curiosity, and highlight the significance of their work without sacrificing rigor.<\/p>\n

The session blends short lectures with practical exercises, peer feedback, and guided revision. Participants will work directly with their own writing \u2014 abstracts, introductions, lay summaries, or project descriptions \u2014 and leave with clearer, stronger versions of their texts.<\/p>\n

Christine Coester<\/h3>\n<\/header>\n

Christine has been working in science communications since 2013, first as a journalist at Handelsblatt, then within non-profits, like the IUCN and the Rainforet Alliance, and now at iDiv, a research institution. She currently works as a science editor in the Impact department.
\nShe holds a Master\u2019s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia\u2019s Journalism School and a Master\u2019s degree from the University of Oxford in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Management.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
